Orbs

Orbital Resonance, 2025

Acrylic yarn, beads

Positioned in the storefront window of Kaleidoscope—a space known for its dynamic blend of art and human interaction-this installation plays with negative space in a way that offers an engaging peek into the space beyond. Inspired by the astrological phenomenon that occurs when orbiting bodies fall into rhythmic gravitational relationships through the exchange of momentum, the forms and bodies who made them create harmonic systems balanced by mutual influence. The delicate, suspended orbs and undulating lines act as a visual bridge, inviting passersby to stop and look closer. The installation seeks to bring to life the organic fluidity of a line, transforming it from linear to experiential. This work melds the softness of yarn with the rigidity of wire, combining two contrasting materials to evoke both the tactile and the structural, tethered together to create an interdependent system of stability. Calling upon the artistic influences of Ruth Asawa, wire is utilized and manipulated into unconventional structures. Yarn—a material historically associated with domesticity and traditional craft-redefines its role in contemporary art through taking on the form of soft sculpture. This unconventional pairing symbolizes what the collective has become; emphasizing the softness and tenderness of community against the rough backdrop of NYC. This work reminds us that even in the emptiness of space, nothing moves alone. Vivid yellow mohair hints at the primaries found in the corner of the room, and related forms are later discovered dangling from the skylight.
